Angela Stanton-King Facts
She is the goddaughter of American activist, author, and former state representative for the 28th District in the Georgia House of Representatives Alveda King. Alveda is the niece of the legendary civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.In 2004, she was arrested for her role in a car theft ring. She was convicted on federal conspiracy charges, had served 2 years in prison, and had even given birth to one of her children during this prison term. She was officially pardoned by President Donald Trump in February 2020.After she was released from prison, she had written several independently published autobiographical books. The content of one of those books had caused a legal dispute between her and reality TV star Phaedra Parks. She is a staunch supporter of the First Step Act (FSA), a bipartisan criminal justice bill that was passed by the 115th Congress and signed by President Donald Trump in December 2018. The key reforms in the act had included reforms in federal prisons and sentencing laws that would reduce recidivism, decrease the federal inmate population, while still maintaining public safety. The act had also outlawed the handcuffing of female inmates during childbirth. Angela had suffered this ignominy in 2004, while she was in jail when she was shackled while giving birth and her newborn was taken away from her 24 hours later. She is also an advocate for the right to vote for anyone released after a felony conviction.Angela has often courted controversy due to her views on social issues, having faced severe backlash for her numerous anti-LGBTQ statements on Twitter. She has often compared the LGBTQ rights movement to pedophilia which has caused her a lot of trouble in public places. In October 2020, she had walked out of an on-camera interview because she was asked about her call for investigations into certain QAnon claims. QAnon is a conspiracy theory that alleges that a cabal of Satanic, cannibalistic pedophiles who run a global child s*x trafficking ring was conspiring against Donald Trump’s presidency.Featured Image by Angela Stanton-King / Instagram
