Whilst touring with Why Don’t We, we were lucky enough to catch up with EBEN in London and we got an exclusive interview.
Hey EBEN, Firstly I’d just like the say thank you for giving CelebMix this amazing opportunity and congratulations on your new song ‘Lambo’, it’s a great song.
Thank you, I’m glad you like it.
What was the reaction like after releasing the song?
Well, I was just surprised so many people loved the song. The overwhelming support was crazy and I was not expecting it at all and I was really happy that people liked it.
What was it like to then release a video for the song?
I had little cars and little kids as police officers. I’ve never had a music video just for me so with all the production and different scenes it was really weird for me. I kept saying to myself, ‘Is this really happening like what is going on, everybody is here for me, this is crazy’. It was definitely a feeling I will never forget. It was so much fun and everyone was cracking jokes because I could hardly fit in the little Lambo.
So far what has been your favourite memory from this tour?
We were in Sweden and there the sun rises at 2:30/3 in the morning and we had a day off and we were all up late so we sat on this bridge looking over the water and watching the sun come up and it was really really cool, it was awesome.
Have you had a bad memory from this tour?
Honestly, I don’t have one! This whole tour has literally been the greatest experience of my life. I’ve never travelled to Europe, this is the first time. Just having a full month, I’ve dreamt of coming to this side of the world and really getting to explore it. Now I am able to do that it’s like a dream come true. The getting up early is the only downside because when I go to bed I just knock out. I lay down and I’m done.
Favourite thing about performing?
Seeing the reaction of the fans. It’s so weird. Some songs I can see fans clearly, other songs I can’t. I do a song called ‘Tell Me’ and during the chorus it’s like strobes and crazy lights because of the big drops in the set and I can’t see anything, like I can’t even see hands. I always try and make eye contact with as many people in the audience as I can. I always want to try and interact even just for a split second so they have that personal moment.
What has it been like to tour with Why Don’t We?
It’s just a bunch of shenanigans like the whole time. It’s so great. They are my brothers and my best friends and it’s crazy that you get to be on the road with people that you enjoy being around. It’s awesome. I will remember this time for the rest of my life.
Is there something the boys or management do that really annoys you?
Tyler is so loud. He is the loudest person I know and I can hear him from a mile away. But I love it because that makes Tyler, Tyler. But when it’s like 6 in the morning and you’ve had 2 hours of sleep because you’ve had a show or something he’ll be like, ‘ Alright boys time to get up’, I’m like ‘ugh no’ The only time I like getting up early is to go and explore the cities and different places. Everyday I’ll just go and walk like 8 miles, exploring and getting all the experience that I want.
What is your favourite lyric from one of your songs and why?
Probably in ‘Lambo’ when it says ‘They say money can’t buy you happiness’. It just hits home for me just because being an artist on the come up, it’s a struggle and everything.
Who influenced you the most growing up?
Definitely my Mom and Dad just because the music they would play. My Mom would always have Elton John, Hall and Oates, just a lot of old school pop and 80’s songs, like Tears For Fears. My dad loves Jazz music so I kind of got the best of both worlds so it’s definitely my parents and their music they would play.
Any future plans, a tour? An album? New music soon?
So much new music, I have literally been recording non stop! I have my studio stuff in my suitcase so when I get to a green room and I have some time to create I’ll set up my microphone and my interface and they will say, ‘Alright time to go on stage’ and I’ll have to stop and perform. But yes a lot of new music and eventually a tour.
Finally, anything you’d like to say to your fans?
To my fans, You guys are honestly the reason I am still going and doing this. The support is unreal and sometimes I can’t even believe it’s true. It’s crazy and i’m so unbelievably thankful for every single one of you. I love you guys.
Thank you again to EBEN for the amazing interview. Hopefully see you soon.
