Gray Devio and Gozzi, also known as New Ordinance, are two very different, but also very similar people.
Devio is a multi-instrumentalist, a genius (because can YOU play more than 3 instruments?), who has been performing in major concert halls since the age of 4. Today, Gray performs at and produces events for high-end clients such as Lamborghini, The Rolling Stones, Donald Trump, Tyra Banks and NBC, to name a few, and has shared the stage with well-known acts all over the world, some of them including Pitbull, Alicia Keys, Justin Bieber, Rod Stewart.
“Has shared the stage with well-known acts all over the world, some of them including Pitbull, Alicia Keys, Justin Bieber, Rod Stewart.”
Gozzi is an award winning producer, DJ and remixer who has worked with some of the industry’s most innovative artists and producers.
His love for music began to develop from the early age of 6 when he received his first drum set from his father. Performing in various bands to operating as a professional audio engineer, his unique ear for sound and musicality eventually led him to DJ’ing at some of the hottest nightclubs across the US. And if that’s not enough, Gozzi also has his very own radio mix shows on various radio stations across the US.
Several years ago they both met and decided to collaborate. Massive piano chords, sizzling arps and grinding grooves combined with a vocal. Meet New Ordinance.
Today, they’re together and even have a new track “One In a Million”, which is out September 15th.
Two guys have already received nation-wide radio support and glowing critiques. CelebMix had a chance to speak to them about their new single and life. We present you – New Ordinance.
To the people who don’t know you, describe your sound. What makes you different?
Our sound is a mix of electronic/organic production and instrumentation in the Trance and Progressive House genres. It is the culmination of many years of being inspired by world culture and electronic music of all types, along with classical theory and instrumental training. Our mix shows and performances incorporate live electric violin and percussion, which adds to the energy of our music and the ability for our fans to connect with it.
Who came up with the idea to collaborate? When did it happen?
We met performing together in the high-end private and corporate event industry in New York City several years ago. Having an immediate synergy inspired a mutual desire to collaborate and create something new and energetic in Electronic Dance Music. Learning slowly and steadily about each other on and off stage created the solid foundation for longevity in our career, trust and friendship.
You both started your music journey at a very young age. Were there ever any doubts? Have you ever felt like music wasn’t for you and wanted to quit it?
Over the years we have both experienced many obstacles on our musical path, as all creatives do, and there was indeed at least one time in each of our lives that frustration caused us to question the journey, but with all journeys, there are mountains and valleys to traverse. As with all living things, oxygen is a necessity of life, so as it is with us and music.
Gray, you and your violin had performed in many major concert halls. How did a child feel in front of such large audiences?
I have been performing since I was 4 years old, and still to this day, whether I am performing for 5 people or 5000 people, I experience the same emotions prior to the performance, during the performance and after the performance…nervousness, excitement and fulfillment.
Congratulations on your new track “One in a million”. Describe it in three words.
Here We Go!
What/who inspired it?
Gray: The vocal for “One In A Million” was inspired by my loving wife, who is just that to me…One In A Million. Her undying love and devotion, along with her support for my career in music, where “there ain’t nothing she wouldn’t do” to see my team succeed is my continued source of strength and inspiration every day. In the end, our love and support for each other is a reflection of trust in the belief that we can accomplish anything we put our minds and hearts into together.
Do you think you’ll ever stop making music and focus on something else?
Never. Music will always be an intrinsic part of our lives, and the continued blood that flows through our veins.
What is something that is really popular now, but in 5 years everyone will look back on and be embarrassed by?
Selfie sticks!
Have you ever tried to do something you know you would be really bad at, what was it?
Gozzi: Yes, trying to ride a hover board. Nearly broke my neck when I fell off of it in front of my whole family.
Gray: I had a similar experience, but on a wakeboard at 16 years old. I’m still coughing up water. Gozzi, we should just call ourselves “New Boardinance.”
Finally, is there something you’d like to say to CelebMix readers and your fans?
We continue to be fulfilled every day by having the blessed opportunity to share our creativity with the world. People say it all the time, but it’s truly a joy to affect and touch lives with our music. We love and appreciate our fans very much, and look forward to the continued privilege of giving to them.
Thank you very much for your time and good luck in the future.
