Rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard died of a drug overdose – a lethal mix of a prescription painkiller and cocaine, his longtime favored narcotic.
The rapper, born Russell Jones, died of accidental “intoxication by the combined affects of cocaine and Tramadol,” Grace Brugess, a spokesperson for the Medical Examiner’s Office, said yesterday.
ODB collapsed and died on Nov. 13 in a Manhattan studio. He was two days away from celebrating his 36th birthday.
Last week, The Post reported a law enforcement source revealed that a plastic bag of a white substance was found in ODB’s stomach during the autopsy.
The bag had actually burst and part of the contents leaked out and was absorbed by ODB’s body, said the source. Family members said immediately after his death that he’d also injured his leg days before by jumping off a stage during a performance and was on crutches as a result of the accident.
For years, the frenzied rap of ODB made him a standout performer with the Wu-Tang Clan – but his life was marked by many drug arrests and a prison stay.
