Babalola’s journey as a scriptwriter began at 14 when he wrote his first film script, “In The Raw.” Upon returning to the United Kingdom, he collaborated with Channel 4 and wrote for the sitcom series “In Exile.”
He subsequently worked with various television channels, including BBC, Carlton Television, and Chrysalis Television.
Babalola’s career took off when he started writing for the TV series “The Bill.” Following the positive reception of the series, he went on to write three TV serials in 1997: “True to Life Player,” “Crime of a Lesser Passion,” and “Armed and Dangerous.”
In 1998, he wrote the serial “One Man, Two Faces.” Additionally, he made his acting debut in the horror film “Deep Freeze” in 2002, portraying the role of a helicopter pilot.
In 2014, Babalola gained recognition for his script for the critically acclaimed blockbuster “October 1.” Originally titled “Dust,” the script took him four weeks to write the first draft and only a week to complete subsequent drafts.
Babalola added his ideas to the script, ensuring the proper interpretation of the story’s vision. He appreciated the film’s status as a period piece, something he had never done before, and recognized its relevance to Nigeria’s present state.
In 2015, Babalola became a writer and producer for the comedy TV production “Rib Busters: Comedy Show.”
His contributions to the film industry were acknowledged when he won the Best Comedy Writer award for “The Meeting” and the Best Drama Writer award for “October 1” at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in 2015.
